Home NAS 2016 Part 3 - Build Log

March 26, 2016

Having procured all the parts it is time to build my NAS.
I ran the motherboard, RAM, and GPU for over a week to test the stability of the system before shutting down myold NAS to move the data across. With the system stability validated I exported the ZFS pool on my old NAS, shut it down and removed the hard drives. The build consisted of the following components:

  • Supermicro Xeon D-1521 motherboard X10SDV-TLN4F
  • Fractal Design Node 304
  • 32 GiB Crucial DDR4 ECC RAM
  • Samsung 950 Pro 256 GB SSD
  • Crucial MX200 250 GB SSD
  • 4 x WD Red 3 TB (two old, two new)
  • Silverstone Nightjar 520 W 80 plus platinum fanless ATXPSU
  • MSI NVidia Geforce 950 GPU
